【電撃2K GAMES ＃00】『バイオショック』や『ボーダーランズ』を生み出した“2K”ってどんなメーカー？
●『The Darkness（ダークネス）』シリーズ
悪魔に魅入られた魂は闇へ……血煙と銃声と“闇の力”が奏でる悲しき男の復讐劇

アメリカの人気コミック『ダークネス』を原案とした一人称視点のアクションシューターで、圧倒的な映像美で綴られるバイオレンスな物語が魅力。目を覆うようなむごたらしい表現が多く含まれているため、好みが極端にわかれる作品としても有名だ。物語の舞台はニューヨークで、“闇の力（ダークネス）”を身に宿した主人公・ジャッキーが殺された恋人の仇を討つべく、マフィア組織との熾烈（しれつ）な争いを繰り広げる。ジャッキーが恋人の復讐を果たした2年後の物語となる続編『ダークネス2』では、ジャッキーの力を狙う組織“ブラザーフッド”との抗争が展開。新要素として2丁拳銃と2本のデーモンアームを同時に操作するシステムが採用され、よりド派手で残酷なアクションが堪能できる。
●『Mafia（マフィア）』シリーズ
最後に笑うのは……俺だ！ ありとあらゆる手段で暗黒社会のボスを目指すクライムアクション

近代アメリカに生きるマフィアの一員として、暗黒社会で成り上がるのが目的のオープンワールド型アクション。下っ端のうちは集金や窃盗といった軽めの仕事しか与えられないが、ボスからの任務を忠実にこなすことで立場が上がっていき、闇酒の売買や裏切り者の始末といったハードなミッションを与えられるようになる。2010年に発売された『マフィア II』では、1940年代のアメリカを表現するべく、車や服装、街の外観はもちろん、ゲーム内で見ることのできるTV番組も当時のものを忠実に再現。マフィアが暗躍した時代の雰囲気を味わえる点が高く評価されている。
●『Civilization（シヴィライゼーション）』シリーズ
文明の行く末はその手の中に――全世界規模の壮大なSLG

実在する文明の指導者となって、発見と発展を繰り返して文明を拡大させていくのが目的のSLG。このシリーズのおもしろみは、1つの文明から新しい何かが生まれ、それがのちに軍事力の強化や技術の開発などさまざまなことに派生する奥深さと、軍事力・経済力・技術力などのバランスを考えて文明を発展させていくところにある。1991年に1作目が発売されてから、基盤となるシステムはそのままに、いろいろなアイデアが組み込まれて多数のシリーズが登場。今もなお根強い人気を誇る歴史的名作だ。
●『NBA 2K（エヌビーエー ツーケー）』シリーズ
バスケットボール・リーグの最高峰“NBA”を再現した本格派スポーツゲーム

実在するチームや選手が登場するだけでなく、各選手の動作の特徴や試合中の実況中継など細かいところまでNBAの世界を再現。本物さながらの臨場感が味わえることで、NBAファンに愛され続けているシリーズだ。シーズンを迎えるたびにデータを更新し、ほぼ毎年新たなシリーズが登場。マイケル・ジョーダンやマジック・ジョンソンといった伝説のスター選手が使用できるなど、ファンにはたまらない要素も追加している。ちなみに、2Kという会社名は、NBAやMLBの2Kシリーズが元になっていますが、スポーツタイトルは2K Sportsというブランドになっています。今年発売される『NBA 2K12』では、グラフィック部分がパワーアップしており、試合中のドリブルのモーションなどの細かい部分をより忠実に再現しているという。
